Musical Madness
26.03.2008The international pre-teen phenomenon, Disney's High School Musical, is finally coming to the West End.
After huge success as a hit Disney Channel Original Movie, not once, but twice, and as a quadruple-platinum soundtrack, everyone's favourite singing high school stars finally come to the live stage.
As a theatrical adaptation of the Emmy Award winning film about teenage social hierarchy and a love for singing, the musical comedy follows Troy, a popular jock, and Gabriella, a shy, studious girl on a mission to fulfill their dreams.
The two both share a passion for singing and decide to audition for the lead roles in their high school's musical, much to the dismay of their peers.
Disruption of the status quo sends many of the other students, jocks and nerds alike, to try to sabotage the two. Against all odds, Troy and Gabriella's shared dream soon helps the other students realize their own hidden talents and potential.
Set to fun music, the soundtrack was the No1 selling album in the world in 2006, going double platinum in the UK, the show is bound to get its audience on their feet and singing along.
Opening at the Hammersmith Apollo London on 30 June 2008, the musical begins a 31-date UK tour, destined to attract both families and the young at heart to the theatre in overwhelming numbers.
Tickets range from £10-£45, but many of the dates have already sold out. The UK tour is already witnessing sales of over £9 million, making this musical one of the biggest events to hit the West End.
“I’m thrilled that the British public has responded so enthusiastically to the opportunity to spend more time with these characters; we’ve had such a huge reaction to the UK tour,” Steve Fickinger, Disney Theatrical Group’s Vice President of Theatrical Licensing said.
“I’m certain this great opportunity to have a run in London will give families the perfect chance to come together to enjoy this stage production.”
