Inside Out
18.02.2008I have a drinking problem. No, I’m not an alcoholic. I am shockingly lax in the water guzzling department.
I know the drill; in an ideal world I would be drinking eight glasses of the good stuff each day. It is not that I don’t want to, I’m just… forgetful. My negligence usually briefly subsides twice a year. Firstly as a New Year’s resolution when ‘detox, detox, detox’ is my January mantra. A philosophy which is well and truly over by February 1st. I’ll try again at the start of summer when I am determined to be of optimum health and beauty during the sunnier months. Sadly, it never lasts longer than a couple of weeks.
My determination quietly fizzles out, I get distracted and before I know it my water consumption has halted. Well not this time. I’m taking action, and I’m not giving up. I’m going to have to get my facts straight if this is going to work…
What?
Water is essential to all known forms of life and is a vital component of the body and its daily diet. It may not contain any nutrients, but H20 lubricates joints and eyes, supports digestion, eliminates waste and toxins from the body and promotes healthy skin.
Why?
An adult’s body weight consists of between 50 to 70 percent water. That’s a whole lot of fluid, but we lose much of it from sweating, going to the bathroom and just plain exhaling. A drop of even a few percent of water in our body leaves us dehydrated, throwing the delicate chemical balance inside us into chaos. Without enough water we can feel headachy and tired, not to the mention negative affects placed on the liver, muscles, joints and kidney function, cholesterol problems and low blood pressure. If you want to avoid such horrors then you need to drink up.
If you’re healthy on the inside it will show on the outside too. A regular dose of water is the best treatment you can give your skin and could soften dark under eye circles, fight ageing, prevent breakouts and blotches and leave you with a rosy glow.
