A Notre-Dame Affair

In Love with Paris

28.07.2008

Down a small road, shadowed by the majestic brilliance of Notre-Dame is where our apartment rests. Every detail is exquisite and perfectly Parisian; from the sumptuously draped curtains to the small delicate kitchen table and the quaint court yard which sings with birds.

The neighbouring street has no less charm with a small market and one of the most popular boulangeries come the five o’clock bake of tens of baguettes. Taking my turn in the queue, with the smell of warm yeast wafting in the afternoon breeze, I add an irresistible looking crème caramel to my order. Only a few paces further I stumble past an award winning fromagerie and with the warm baguette clutched under my arm pick three oozing, ripe cheeses. A bottle of wine later, I find myself hurrying back to the apartment for the best cheese sandwich (I guess in essence that is what it was!) I have ever devoured.

The following days I enjoyed the glistening temptations of the Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Louis Vuitton (it looks like a stately home) and the most incredible restaurant in Paris Le Jules Verne, on the second level of the Eiffel Tower. But nothing brought me greater satisfaction than at the end of the day meandering back to my beautiful little apartment amidst the historic epicentre of a wonderful city.
