Hair Today...
25.03.2008Once used, recharging is only necessary after approx 45 minutes of usage on the high intensity setting, so not bad on that front.
Using TRIA does take some perseverance and you will certainly not notice results straight away, more as I did, over the course of several treatments and months.
It’s recommended to use the laser every 2-4 weeks, because, according to the website (http://www.tria.co.uk), lasers work best on hair in the ‘Anagen’ or active growth phase, one of the 3 phases a hair goes through in its 33 week life cycle; ‘Catagen’ phase, the transitional phase of arrested growth; ‘Telogen’ phase, the resting phase of hair growth cycle, being the other two.
Laser treatment is not for everybody: skin tone and hair colour largely determine your suitability and its subsequent success. This product works best on fair skinned people with darker body hair, as the laser reacts with the dark pigment (melanin) of the hair shaft, so, the darker your hair, the better the results.
Darker skin tones, those of medium brown, dark brown, or black skin, are not suitable (there is a colour chart on the product packaging to help determine your skin tone) as it can potentially cause pigmentation, scaring and various other skin injuries, owing to darker skin tones absorbing more light than fairer skin tones.
This advice also extends to fair skinned people who have overdone the tanning salons and become overly light-sensitive, or those who are already sun-burnt, have psoriasis etc You should read product manufacturers instruction booklet carefully on this point.
Although you don’t have to wear protective glasses when using TRIA, these warnings, coupled with stern advice to avoid using the laser around your eye area, serve as a reminder that you are dealing with a real laser.
And lasers don’t come cheap: £695 to be exact. Put into context though, if you’re looking to spend up to £400 or (easily!) more on a few beauty salon laser treatments, and considerably more for a leg area, the initial outlay for TRIA is not unreasonable - not to mention the convenience of using it from the comfort of your sofa.
