It works by passing a small amount of electricity into the hair follicle through a very fine needle, heat is produced which destroys the hair-producing cells at the base of the follicle. More than one treatment is needed as hair follicles have a specific hair growth cycle, and it usually takes around two years of treatments for an area to be completely free of hair. The treatment can be slightly painful and is often compared to being pinged with an elastic band. Whilst the cost of electrolysis may be painful in itself, at around £60 per hour, it is an investment and will soon pay for itself with all the wax and razors you’ll no longer need.

There is an increasing number of at home devices coming on to the market, which can be used to lessen hair regrowth. The Tria and No!No! are both hand held devices which can be used in the privacy of your own home. The No!No! uses heat to zap hairs and make them finer, whilst Tria emits a light laser to kill the hair and stop it from returning.
