We're in Paris, the final stop on the international fashion week train and we're gearing up for designs from the likes of Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Martin Margiela and Yohji Yamamoto.

But first we're going elegant but punky and short yet demure with our first show from Balmain's Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

Designs from Christopher Decarnin who joined Balmain three years ago are a favourite among Hollywood starlets Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow and this year's show did not disappoint.

The gemstone coloured gowns were wrapped or swathed over models and highly embellished with jewels, crystals and studs.

We can already spy a few red-carpet numbers in the collection and will be keeping an eye on who wears what to next year's award ceremonies. Place your bets now...
